Research interests

The Baumann group investigates structure-function relationships in proteases and extracellular matrix components.

We are especially interested in the mechanism and substrate recognition of metalloproteases and the ATP-driven conformational changes occurring in protein degradation machines like FtsH.  The group also investigates how Serpins fold collagens. A major methodology is X-ray crystallography to visualize the atomic structure of these molecules.
